Dear colleague,
for your information - some activities in Austria. I would be very
thankful, if you could circulate and distribute it this to related
INTEREST GROUPS and COLLEAGUES!
Thanks a lot.
Yours,
Chris
Cut here: ----------------------------------------------------------
Dear colleagues,
I am pleased to distribute the following "Call for Cooperation"
from the Technologie- and Marketinggesellschaft (TMG) of Upper
Austria:
NEW BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES IN UPPER AUSTRIA
+++
ENTREPRENEURS ARE WELCOME !
This is an invitation to innovative enterprises, and those in the
fields of multimedia and virtual reality in particular. It extends
both to cooperation with Upper Austrian companies and potential
branches in Austria.
Ars Electronica Center
----------------------
Upper Austria proudly presents the ARS ELECTRONICA CENTER (AEC),
which is currently under construction and will open on January, 1st
1996.
It will be a unique facility for high-tech-activities, a stage for
new developments and innovations in the fields of computing,
multimedia and telecommunication, linking research, the arts and
industry. The technological capabilities will include ISDN, 140
MBit data highways and ATM networking, as well as access to
supercomputing.
The AEC will be situated in Linz, the capital city of Upper
Austria, directly on the river Danube. The Ars Electronica has been
in existence since 1979 and is a globally famous festival of the
arts, technology and social developments. In addition, the Prix Ars
Electronica has grown into the world's richest price for computer
music, graphics, animation and the interactive arts.
Beside this new highlight, the Upper Austrian Region also can offer
the following infrastructure:
The Softwarepark Schloss Hagenberg
----------------------------------
The Softwarepark Schloss Hagenberg, which is situated just 15
autobahn minutes to the north of Linz, is the only scientific park
of its type in Central Europe.
It already houses 11 university institutes and 16 high-tech
companies and internationally respected researchers in the field of
computer science, computer and industrial mathematics act as
contact persons for interested parties.
The centerpiece of the Softwarepark is the renowned Research
Institute for Symbolic Computation (RISC), which has a staff of 45
and is primarily involved in teaching, research and industrial
cooperation projects. Disciplines include computer algebra, expert
systems, neuronal networks, parallel computation and software
automation for the following areas of application: engineering,
manufacturing automation, process automation, technical simulation,
safety and security systems, communications and networks, software
tools and databases. ISDN, 140 MBit data highways, access to
supercomputing, Internet, etc. are available on the Softwarepark.
The Johannes Kepler University, Linz
------------------------------------
The Johannes Kepler University has approximately 17.000 students and
mainly concentrates on technical subjects. Of special interest are
the courses in mechatronics, computer science and technical
mathematics. Due to close cooperation with industry, companies have
access to profound basic scientific knowledge. ISDN, 140 MBit data
highways and ATM networking are available on the university campus.
In addition, since around 1987, the campus also has an Ethernet
network. Approximately 700 persons are employed in research and
teaching posts.
Design Center Linz
------------------
With the building of the Design Center, Linz has created an
architecturally unique event and congress center, which offers an
ideal home for an enormous variety of functions. ISDN, glass fiber
networking to the ORF radio and TV studios and access to Internet
are available.
Technologie Zentrum Linz
------------------------
The Technologie Zentrum Linz has been in existence since 1986 and
accommodates 41 enterprises with more than 300 employees. These
companies come from widely differing branches including software
and environmental technology. The technological capabilities
include ISDN, access to Internet and 140 MBit data highways.
Finally
-------
First and foremost, the Upper Austrian economic location is
distinguished by its geographical proximity to the reforming
nations of Eastern Europe, in particular to the expanding economy
of the Czech Republic.
The Technologie- and Marketinggesellschaft (TMG) is the official
development body of the federal state of Upper Austria and
represents the main partner for domestic and international
investors.
